Britney's Battle

This picture from PerezHilton.com makes me so sad. I’m a self-admitted celebrity news junkie, and I know that by going to sites like Perez, TMZ, etc., I am a part of the problem.

But the girl in this picture is hysterical, emotionally drained, and has no one looking out for her. I get that much of it is her fault. Her family, friends, managers and others have reached out to her and asked her to get help. Reportedly, an intervention is in the works. But no one deserves to get this low.

I wonder if she was destined to battle mental illness no matter what her childhood was like. I have to think that her problems are hereditary, and she might have fought depression or another mental illness even if she had stayed in Louisiana and become a housewife. But at least, then, she might have gotten the help she needed earlier, and certainly in private. Britney can’t go anywhere without the cameras following her. Yes, she calls many of the paparazzi herself, and yes, she is an adult who should know that there are consequences to her actions.

But she’s lost custody of her two small children … she’s lost friends … she’s lost a lucrative career and she will always be a cautionary tale. Isn’t that enough? Britney needs help, and I hope she gets it. I worry she won’t.
