Sunday Night Musings

by Katy on April 14, 2008

It’s been a while since I last blogged — and while there haven’t been many BIG events in my life, there has been a series of small ones that have kept me busy!

But things have slowed down tonight … I am sitting on my couch with two sleeping dogs, a sleepy husband, the Red Sox-Yankees game on TV and a nice glass of sparkling wine on the table. It doesn’t get much better than that!

The last 48 hours or so has had me in triathlon training mode. I have never competed before, and never could have … but I lost 40 pounds about a year ago, and have been able to keep it off. So my new goal is to finish a sprint triathlon. I actually had hoped to do one on March 15, but that didn’t happen. There are two more this fall, so I hope to do one of them. I take a cycling class once a week, run 2-3 times a week and swim 1-2 times a week. I’m also still weight training, so it gets to be a lot … and while I’ll probably never be the person that CRAVES exercise, I do notice that I feel blah when I don’t get to the gym.

This morning, I ran 2 miles at a 9-min mile pace, then swam 800 yards (not straight — I did 8 x 100s with 1:00 rest in-between). I still have to get all three events (swim, bike, run) in one workout, but I have to figure out how.

My friend Wendy is competing in the Ironman today in Arizona — I can’t even imagine! All day, my husband and I have been saying to each other, “oh my goodness, Wendy has been exercising for (enter number) hours straight, and she still has (enter number) left! can you imagine?” and then we go back to napping, or eating ice cream. We did plenty of both today.

There’s more to say but the game is on and I am feeling lazy. :)
