Two Left Feet but a Doggone Good Run

by Katy on December 12, 2008

Good morning!

So, today, my alarm clock went off at 4:44. The night before, it sounded like a great idea to get up so early, and the only way to squish a run into a pretty big day. This morning, it felt like a terrible idea.

Until I saw this face.

Can’t you practically hear his thoughts? “Mama, I know it’s early and I know it’s dark and I know it’s drizzly but you promised, please please please please please?”

Ahh … so, I got out of bed, Junior got dressed in his collar and Gentle Leader, and off we went.

And you know what? It was the best workout I’ve had in a long time. Not the “work” part — that ended up being more of a jog than a run, stuttered with lots of sniffing stops and a few pee breaks. For him. Not me. Just wanted to make that clear.

It also helped get rid of some lingering memories of our last run together — a run in which I took a massive wipeout, all flailing arms and dramatic slow-motion crash to the ground. I was okay, minus some nasty road rash, and it wasn’t Junior’s fault at all; I had tripped over a piece of jagged sidewalk. But today’s run helped to erase all of that.

He was so much fun to run with. He kept a perfect pace, and didn’t wus out. We made it about 2.5 miles, which is a shorter run for me, but when we were done I felt great, he was pooped, and neither of us (I’ll speak for him) regretted the early hour.

So, on to a big day! I almost headed out the door with two left feet:

I bought those shoes about a week ago, and only tried on one in the store … somehow, two left shoes made it home! Such a bummer, because look how cute they are! My outfit really calls for black shoes, but how boring is that? So I’m wearing these today, instead:

Klassy pics, I know. Okay, off to breakfast with my buddy … then to a shoot for The Growing Bolder TV Show, then back to get some work done for the weekend, then Christmas shopping and McCormick and Shmicks! (Yeah, I spelled that wrong).
