Woo hoo for Running!

by Katy on December 21, 2008

NEVER in my life did I think I’d ever utter that phrase … to be honest, I don’t think I could have said it six months ago. But finishing two triathlons shook something loose inside me, and now, I not only enjoy running, but I am motivated to get better and faster!

Not every day, mind you … I still have good runs and bad, and I still sometimes feel like running is a chore. But here’s the thing … I often regret NOT working out. But I never regret running, once it’s done.

But before I talk about today’s workout, I have to highlight some delicious treats I’ve had over the past few days. Starting with sushi on Friday:

(Oh, before I add the pic … let me apologize for the quality. I’ve been sending pictures straight from my cell phone to Flickr, and have not been editing them. But now that I see them … I might have to change my pattern!)

This is the Firecracker roll from Wazzabi Sushi. It had two types of tuna, enoki mushrooms, some tempura flakes, and jalapeno on top. But it wasn’t as spicy as I had hoped, so I had to take most of the wasabi on the side and stir it into my soy sauce. And for a place that specializes in sushi, I was shocked that I couldn’t order it with brown rice! Oh well … I had miso soup and edamame as well. Yum.

On Saturday, my meals included a BEAUTIFUL salad … Look how big it was!

This had mixed greens, carrots, an apple and a very ripe pear. He snuck in because he wasn’t going to make it another day. I topped it with some FF italian dressing.

I also had a baked sweet potato, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and some kosher salt.

Wow, that pic is really bad. Dessert last night was a honey wheat FlatOut wrap (my first time eating that flavor — yum!) with sugar-free chocolate syrup, all rolled up. It was drippy and delicious.

Okay, on to today’s run … I had lunch with the sweetest girl last week, for business, but when she asked me if I wanted to run with her, I said sure! I’ve never run with anyone else before, but we had a great time … 4 miles on the amazing Cady Way Trail. We talked the whole time, and she’s convinced that I could be ready for a 10K next year, and the Olympic triathlon in March. So, that’s the goal!

When I got home from the run, I still had some energy … I had seen Lucas running home from the gym, so I ran up to him, and ran home. Still had energy, so I actually did another 2 miles! So that’s 6 miles total! If it had been straight, it would have been my longest run, but I’m not counting that because it was split up. It definitely kicked my butt, though!

The dogs had a busy morning, too, so now they’re carbing up.

Coffee’s ready, and I think it might be an oatmeal morning … then a big afternoon of football watching! GO PATRIOTS! BEAT THE CARDS!
