Nice title, huh?
Here’s why:
You can tell I was excited, because I jumped in front of the camera with no makeup, sweaty hair, and bad lighting.
If you don’t feel like watching (and I really AM going to work on making these shorter!), the takeaway is that I ran 10 miles today! I felt like I needed to push myself, because I’ve been so focused on the Making the Cut weight training program. I wondered if I could even run one mile anymore! Guess I answered that question.
And I really needed to find out, because I’m still hoping to compete in the WildMan Olympic Triathlon, the Danskin Sprint Triathlon, several sprint tris this fall, and the Disney Half Marathon in January. Meep!
Yes, I said Meep! It’s been on my brain since I went to the Jim Henson exhibit at the Orange County Regional History Center on Friday. Look what I bought!
If you are in the area and have ANY interest in The Muppets, The Fraggles, the Henson family, animation … or really just have a brain and a basic sense of curiosity … you should go check out the exhibit. I’m definitely going back, and this time, I’m going to download the podcast so I can listen to it as I walk through.
Anyway, that was a sidebar — MapMyRun calculated my winding run route and it said 11 miles, but that’s because I walked one mile. I ran 4 miles to the gym, did a pretty intense lifting working, then walked a mile to cool down, and ran the remaining 6 miles home. So, yeah, I’ll be hurting tomorrow. Hurting so good.
Today was one of those head-clearing runs. Stress dissolved, all of the things that were weighing me down suddenly seemed lighter, and I just let my body do its thing. Glorious.
In the video, I promised to show off my February running playlist. It’s pretty heavy with Top 40 and hip hop, but it rocks. I think I might tweak a song or two, because it gets a little slow about 2 miles in, but it really kept me going on the 6 mile run home. I love that it ends with Bruce Springsteen’s new song, Working On a Dream.

What else is new? We have family coming in for a brief visit tomorrow, which should be fun. They’re on Lucas’s side of the family, so they’re brining venison, cheese curd, homemade cookies, smoked sausage, blackberry jams and homemade applesauce.
Drool.
And since this is a fitness AND food blog — supposedly — here’s a quick look at some of the goodies that I’ve been slamming down. Remember, I’m on Day 15 of Jillian Michaels’ Making the Cut program, so I can’t post recipes. Once the program is done, I’ll go back to posting instructions for eating like me.
Overnight Oats (basically, just mix oats with whatever goodies you want — in this case, cottage cheese, golden raisings, Splenda, vanilla and cinnamon, and let it sit overnight. Delish.)

TEN MILES?? Wow! I used to get so excited when I’d run five! Now I’d be lucky to get two in. I remember running… it’s that thing that makes you feel freakin’ awesome right after, isn’t it? Hmmm… might have to think about getting back into it… but TEN miles? That’s a bike ride, for me.
YOU GO!
great idea regarding the music playlist! congrats on the 10 mile run – have you attempted a second 10 mile run yet?
I’m 285lbs – but I run or walk everyday. I actually joalk (jog walk) – which is where I look like I’m jogging, I feel like I’m jogging, but if you were walking, you could keep up with me…
In other words – I’m slow – very slow…
congrats again and keep it up…
