When You Ralk, You've Wun

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that, even as a joke, it pains me to use such poor grammar in a post. But I couldn’t help it! Because tonight, when I headed out for my workout, I coined a new turn.

Ralking. Pronounced like rocking. ‘Cuz that’s how I roll.

It started when I pulled on my running clothes, put the headphones in, and headed out to pound the pavement. But instead of having a distance goal, I decided just to go out at a decent pace and run as long as I felt like it. That was about 3.5 miles, a short distance for me, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I started walking for about 200 yards, then ran … then walked another 100, then ran … and so on, and so on. I started to feel down on myself, until I decided that I would call this new pace “ralking,” a combo of running and walking.

And I couldn’t stop there — since walking plus running could also form wunning, I actually crafted the post title during the last .25 of my run. Bloggers, am I alone in getting pure pleasure out of the perfect title?

Came home for a great dinner, the star of which was:

Pickled daikon. Of course, I gobbled it up without taking a picture, so I’m using this substitute from The Breakaway Cook, an amazing writer (and picture-taker!)

I used this recipe by Tyler Florence (swoon) and it.was.fantastic. Crunchy … sweet … sour … yum. And very filling, so it would be great in a salad or during lunch, because I get HAAAANGRY at about 4pm, and start making deals with myself so I don’t devour an entire pint of ice cream as an appetizer.

I mentioned how much I liked “Julie & Julia,” and now the same dear friend that I went to the movie with has lent me the book, so I’ll be comparing the two once I’m done. It’s been interesting reading reviews of the movie from other bloggers. Have you seen it? What did you think?

I also found a really interesting article, all about “What Would Julia Cook If She Were a Vegan Locavore?

Of course, she’d have to give up butter and that’s not likely … but the article got me thinking: there are so many modern “Julias” in the world! Just look at the lineup of bloggers who put together the Healthy Living Summit, which I’ll be attending this weekend:

These ladies all have the same passion that pushed Julia Child, but they all have such unique twists on their food perspectives. I’m not vegan, but I can appreciate the idea of thinking about what’s in our food. I’m not a nutritionist, but I look up to those who know how to take healthy food and make it good. I haven’t run a marathon, but I want to feel the same pride in my body that these ladies do.

These bloggers (and so many more) are my daily psychologists — they keep me on the right path, and no matter what is happening in my life, ONE of them has the perfect post!

I’ll be meeting all of these bloggers this weekend, and will even get to meet fellow Syracuse grad Janel Ovrut and blogging guru Cory from Zesty Cook, but what has me most excited?

Seeing my mommy, who’s going with me! I’ll be tweeting about the Summit, so be sure to follow me!
