The Scenic Route

After the Healthy Living Summit on Saturday, it was time to head out of the city. We took the scenic route so we could stop and enjoy some local wildlife:

And rejuvenate with a little food and water:

Now, there was a time (ahem, college) when the idea of leaving any part of that margarita behind would have shocked me. In fact, we had a term for it: “Leaving your boy on the battlefield.” Well, I am older and wiser and more willing to walk away from the wounded. So, despite the overwhelming urge to swim in that big glass, I only drank about half of this. Those scallops? Pretty much licked the plate clean.

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know that I would rather visit Whole Foods than Walt Disney World. So when Mom told me there was a Trader Joe’s nearby,  my eyes lit up and we headed out on an adventure. I wish I had an extra bag to take home with all of the goodies, but since I’ll be back in New England in a month or so, I had to settle for a few small purchases and a lot of eye candy.

I was good and only grabbed a couple of fruit bars and some vanilla meringues … and another quick hug with Mom.

BTW, don’t you love this sign? And it’s true … the prices were much better than at Whole Paycheck Foods.

With stuffed tummies and happy hearts, we meandered home and had a quiet night. After so much running around, I could feel my eyeballs getting itchy last night, and knew I needed to get some sleep!

That meant I was refreshed and ready for a great run this morning. Inspired by Meghann, I grabbed my camera and headed out. I ran for about 3.75 miles, then ralked my way back.

I was sweaty and stinky when I came back but so was Mom:

So we went for a walk, playing a little along the way:

Then coming home for some Honey Oikos and fresh berries from the garden.

Somehow I have managed to shove ALL of the swag from HLS into my carry-on suitcase, so I will be enjoying the goodies for the next few weeks. I’ll be posting pictures and reviews here, so if you saw something in the swag bag that you’re interested in, let me know and I’ll move it up the list! I’ll be heading back to the Steamy State later today, and then it’s back to work tomorrow. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Your pics are great! I’m so jealous of your trip to Trader Joes! DYING to get one close to us, but none yet! You’re an inspiration. Keep up the good work!

Love the pictures! Pretty flowers :) No shame in not finishing that drink either! You finished what counts! THE FOOD! I also think that oikos and fresh berries from the garden would be the best snack ever!

Can’t wait to read some reviews about what was in the swag bags!

Even though we didn’t get to chat at the conference, I figured out that you are RAD. Looking forward to reading more of your blog!
