While I was at the Healthy Living Summit this weekend, someone (Caitlin?) said, “Blogs are a great way to remember where you’ve been and what you’ve done.” And it’s so true. It’s fun to look back at my very first post, back in November of ’07, and remember the feeling that hitting the submit button was a huge step.
I love looking at a post made exactly a year ago, when I was coming back from a blogging break and laying out my goals.
And I even love reading the words I posted just one day ago — reminiscing about the fun I had in Boston with family, friends and strangers who are now friends.
The trip ended on a sweet and filling note. Mom and I wanted to grab lunch before heading to the airport, so we chose a place that had a reputation for being local-focused, organic and delish.
Flour Bakery was all that and more — we knew it had to be good because it was packed with people when we arrived! The menu was overwhelming and beautiful:
And the goodies beckoned to us both, from behind glass:
I loved being able to see what was happening behind the scenes — I’ve said it before … there’s something about seeing real people slicing, baking and serving that makes the entire experience better.
I decided to go with the vegan grilled tofu sandwich. It was amazing! The tofu was a little skimpy, but the olive tapendade and the crusty, grilled bread made up for it. It had roasted and grilled veggies piled on — even asparagus, which was so yummy and crunchy.
Mom made a good choice, too — getting the chicken, avocado and jicama sandwich, but without the bread. They mashed it up in a bowl for her and it smelled great.
And we both had tea out of the cutest teapots:
I wanted to take home a souvenir but I couldn’t fit this into my carry-on:
Love the message! I did not actually eat dessert because I was too full from the sandwich, but I’m a big proponent of dessert first.
The rest of the day was a bit of a blur. I made it through security with all my Healthy Living Summit swag (phew!) and got on the plane (close call, thanks to an overbooked flight) only to sit for an hour on the tarmac. But I didn’t mind waiting, since the pilot’s intercom message was a little spooky:
“We are having some trouble with the computers that tell us how fast we’re going and in what direction.”
I was glad they took their time to figure it out! Finally made it home, after sitting through the second-worst movie I’ve ever seen:

Sorry, folks, I love a good romantic comedy as much as the next girl, but this was brutal. Can anyone guess my least favorite movie of all time? The winner gets my undying admiration!
The husband had a glass of champagne waiting for me when I opened the door, so I enjoyed that with a plate of pasta and a few (read: four) slices of the amazing Cardamom Coffee Zucchini Cake that I bought at the HLS. Ahhhhhhhmazing.
So, now I’ve caught up on the activities from the weekend. If you were at HLS, I’ll be adding all of your blogs to my reader tonight and can’t wait to get to know you better! If you weren’t, start making plans for next year. The planning crew says there will be an HLS 2!
