Here’s how my day started: an email from Lucas, with a subject that says something like “Plllllleeeeeeeaaaaassssse?”
That’s never a good sign. Electronic whining. If it were something simple, he’d call. But no. He dropped a puppy bomb over email.
Here’s the back story. We have two amazing dogs and two fat cats.

Happy Family
They’re all adopted from shelters. They’re all mutts. And they’re all amazing animals. Junior (the brown and white cutie at my feet in the photo) was never supposed to be in the family, though. We were fostering a series of animals (cats and dogs) to give them a break from their kennels, and to give Faegan (the other dog) a playmate. Junior was about the sixth in a line of dogs that we took in and returned. But Junior … well, he wiggled his way into our hearts and is now a member of the family.
We agreed, after Junior — no.more.animals. Even to foster. Even to look at. I smack Lucas if he even glances at the puppies at the pet store.
But, it turns out, the shelter where both doggies came from have a puppy in need. He’s blind and deaf, and apparently too cute for words. He needs a foster home, preferably with another dog or to to quote “show him the ropes.” They don’t need him to be adopted — just take the little guy for a day or two to give him some love. Lucas is sold. Me, not so much. What would you do?
At least there are things that DON’T give me heartburn. Sausages and veggies. Yeah, that’s right — after a weekend full of healthy eating, talking about healthy eating and blogging about healthy eating, I needed to get my carnivore on.
Can’t you just hear the sizzle? That’s my beloved Calphalon griddle pan, getting it done. Not sure how I lived without it for so long, but now that it’s in my life, I will never let it go.
Now, typically, Lucas and I try and go Meatless on Monday, but these organic beauties have been in the freezer for weeks and I found myself craving their fennely goodness. So I grilled them up and made a little kitchen sink ratatouille (diced tomatoes, onions, zucchini, garlic and spices) and some awesome asparagus:
I know you like that Foodbuzz HLS swag action on the spatula. We drizzled a little balsamic on the asparagus and nom nom nommed it all up:
I dipped back into the swag bag for a little sweetness after dinner:
But I felt a little meh about these Peeled Snacks. I had apple, and these weren’t any better than the dried apples I make in my dehydrator. Good, but nothing special. Mom has the mango, and promises to let me know what she thinks after she breaks into hers. She’s already given the Fruition Bars and the Glo Bar a rave review.
(New to the blog? I don’t post everything I eat. I post the things that stand out as extra bad or extra good, or meals that have a story attached. I post when I want and don’t when I don’t. So some days you’ll see breakfast, some you’ll see lunch and some you’ll see dinner. Other days you’ll see all or none.)
As if I didn’t have enough food glory to keep me going, I won a giveaway! And it’s one that I was DYING to win!
Thanks to Andrea from Care to Eat, I will get to try Dave’s Killer Bread, something I’ve been really excited to see popping up in the blog world. Take a moment and watch a video about his story — drug addiction, time in prison, rehab and now a successful bakery. I’ll be taking lots of pictures and posting my thoughts as soon as I try the goodies, so stay tuned for that.
Tomorrow, I’ll be posting my review of the P90X program, which Lucas and I both completed. If you have questions that you definitely want answered about the program, let me know and I’ll be sure to address it!
I leave you with best wishes from my family to yours:

you are hilarious.
that is all. oh, and I love you.
and your mommy
Silly Tater Tot is such a cute name for your blog! Love it! So sorry we didn’t meet at the Summit
I’m glad you had fun like me. Great looking dinner, too. Now I’m craving sausages and asparagus…
Best,
Nicole
OK, don’t hate me, but if all they need is a weekend or two for this blind and deaf puppy to learn doggie ways, and IF you have a weekend or two, why not? Just try not to fall in love with it and beg for it to stay.
I am so psyched that you won Dave’s Killer Bread…can’t wait to hear your take on it.
Oh, how can you say no to the pup?!?!
Just happened upon your blog today and it is getting bookmarked!
I also have two dogs and two cats and understand your dilemma. If I were you, take the pup for a day or two BUT no naming it (if it doesn’t have a name) not even a cute little nick-name. You just need to do whatever you can to not get attached. You have fostered before so I am guessing this probably isn’t news to you. Another thing, you might want to set up exactly how long you are going to have it and where it is going next. Schedule a pick up so it is harder to back out.
Good for you for fostering! I am too scared of getting attached so I have never done it.
