Katy - That's a terrific review! I have recently become a Beachbody Coach and have not done P90X - yet! I'm starting with Insanity on Nov. 7th! Yes, that's right! I went for the crazy HIIT program! LOL!

I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done! Not starting until after my race and rest week, not that I really need the rest week after being sick all this week, but I want to slowly work my way back from focusing on race training next week.

I do plan on getting and using P90X probably next, but it'll be a while because I also want to get in an STS rotation first.

I love that you both saw improvements on P90X, but an 8 pound gain! I would say great if it were all muscle, but we both know that it's impossible to make that big of a muscle gain in 3 months! Did you notice any change in the way your clothes fit? I hope I can stay focused on my eating plan when I ramble my program that way! I'm a very picky eater and don't like protein bars or protein shakes, so I usually bypass any set nutrition plan and stay on my own. I do like Shakeology because it's meal replacement, but not a protein shake. Lots more vitamins and minerals and no artificial garbage!

Anyway, thanks again for the review!

Hopefully not!

Thanks for the comment and the e-mail...

For pullups, my husband and I used the bar that is sold by Beachbody and mounts in a doorway. You can now get a similar bar at most Walgreens/CVS/Wal-Mart/Target types for about $30. If you and your friend CAN swing it, I found that the bar was crucial. When I started, I couldn't do a full pull-up, but I used a chair for balance (which they also do on the DVD.

The resistance bands can be used in PLACE of the bar, and you actually just wrap them over a door and then sit on the ground. You pull the bands DOWN, simulating a pull-up. Weird but true.

Came across your review while searching for some information on recommended scaling for pullups in P90X.

When you say you "did resistance bands", does that mean you used the band to assist you in doing pullups? Or did you sub out pullups for a movement with the resistance band?

I'll shoot you an email as well, since this is a pretty old post and you may not be notified of new comments. :)

Great review -- thanks for posting it! I'm in the middle of my first cycle of P90X (Week 4!) and am really enjoying it. Do you think you'll do anything differently (change up the diet, do P90X Doubles, etc.?) for your second round? (Also, I hope you don't mind me linking to your review!)

Meghann,

Gulp! I'm doing the half marathon at Walt Disney World in January. Now that I'm up to I'm up to nearly double digits in my runs, I had a brief -- but fleeting -- thought that maybe I could do a half this fall, but I think I'll wait. Maybe some triathlons, though!

Shannon,

I'm so glad this post convinced you to leave a comment! It's funny -- my husband and I have never successfully been able to work out together, until P90X! It was nice because he could use heavier weights but still do the same routines.
