Hunks of Burning Love

**Like beer? How about free stuff? Make sure to read through the post for an AWESOME giveaway, courtesy of my man Lucas!

So I was sitting at home, working on my new and improved blogroll, when the room all of a sudden got really dark:

New Curtains

The rain started coming down in buckets:

Rain

And no sooner could I tweet this:

Yikes … it’s definitely hailing. Losing power in 3, 2 …

than the house went KABOOM! The windows shook, my dogs started going crazy, and I swear, I started whimpering because I felt a shock go through my left side. It wasn’t intense — kind of the same shock you get when you shuffle across a room and touch someone.

Next thing I knew, Lucas is hollering about fire trucks and I run outside to see this outside my next-door neighbor’s house:

Fire Trucks

Fire Trucks 2

My neighbor had called the fire department, reporting a lightning strike at his house! The firefighters spent about 20 minutes looking through the house, checking the roof and more. They had axes and hoses and the whole nine, but didn’t find anything, so they left and took their big fire hoses lifesaving skills and courage with them.

So, that was the excitement for the night! Made up for a pretty bland day — lots of work, because Monday is always a catch-up day for me. But in terms of fitness? Non-existent. My feet are still killing me from the poor shoe choice at Taste of the Nation, and I am planning on a medium-distance run in the morning, so I decided to make today a rest day.

Speaking of TOTN, I used the rolls that Caitlin snuck out to make these beauties for lunch on Sunday:

Yum. Today, I had veggie soup a la Kelly:

And a tangelo that fooled me into thinking it was local.

Tangelo

I had a brain lapse, and bought this thinking it was from Minneola, Florida (30 miles from me) when in reality, it was from Minneola, Peru (many more miles away).

And some kettle corn:

Confession? I eat the kernels, too. Crunchy. Don’t tell my dentist.

Yikes! Glad you’re okay! That sounds pretty scary. The tangelo looks nice and juicy, even if it’s from far away. Right now, I’m just trying to eat up all the organic summer stone fruit I can while it’s still available! I really miss it in the winter :( Oh well, there are always Galas, Goldens, and citrus to keep us company….

Wow! That was quite a storm. Sometimes they’re fun, but I’ll admit to getting a little nervous when the house shakes.

I hope your feet feel better. It’s amazing what one night in painful shoes can do to your feet! It’s like the ball of the foot gets bruised.
