Caffeine to the Rescue

Wow, guess I’m not the only one that loves Pumpkin Spice Lattes! And to answer Janel, yes — my dog is named after a bar at my beloved Syracuse University. Klassy.

As promised, the Pumpkin Spice fairy made a deliver today to the hard-working staff of Growing Bolder.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

My bosses agreed that while these aren’t everyday coffees, they’re perfect for days like today that start and end with drizzly, cool (sorry, Jackie) weather.

The two drinks in the back are my water and a venti nonfat coffee misto. I normally don’t drink coffee during the week, but something in the back of my brain told me I would need the caffeine. And my brain was right. I had a surprise project that needed to get finished on a very tight deadline, and I ended up being fueled by that bad boy for five hours!

I’d love to know — do you drink coffee? How often? How much? How do you take it?

(FYI, I’m a former two-cups-a-day-sometimes-three girl. I now have two cups on Saturday and Sunday, with skim milk and stevia. Now that Caitlin has posted her how-to for French Press coffee, I think I’ll be digging out that long-buried wedding present and making my own “fwothy” coffees! Love ya, Healthy Tipping Point!)

The venti was also helpful, because I did an 8.5-mile run this morning in a constant drizzle, and was exhausted when I got home. I’m a morning person, but that doesn’t make it any easier to take the first few steps out of bed at 5am.

Yummy foods followed later in the day, including a meal that made me smile because it was all purple!

Smoothie Plums Cabbage

A smoothie with Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer, two purple plums (one of them is the dinosaur egg variety — so cute!) and cabbage leftover from last night. I also had a small bag of Kashi crackers and some frozen veggies, but they’re not purple so they got pushed to the side.

The Vega smoothie, a freebie from the Healthy Living Summit, was great! I had the mixed berry flavor, and blended it with frozen strawberries before work. I stuck it in the freezer, intending to take it out after about an hour, but time got away and when I finally rescued it, it looked like this!

Vega Icee

New favorite! It was icy, like a granita. And the original blending actually made so much:

Vega Smoothie 3

that I still have some Smoothie in a Bowl to look forward to!

That’s it for tonight — we’re making sausages for dinner, which is a shock to Lucas who just remarked that three out of the last four dinners we’ve had have been vegetarian!

I’ll leave you with this detail from my Starbucks that I love so much — the splash stick. Changed my life, I’ll tell ya.

I do love me some coffee, but alas I have had to cut down. It depends on what brand of coffee it is, some upset my tummy a lot more than others. I now maybe have coffee two or three times a month (depressing to me!) sometimes less.

I enjoy my coffee usually with a small amount of cream and one packet of raw sugar. But my all time favorite way to have coffee is soy latte, 12 oz, extra shot please =)

  2. I’m a one (large!) cup of coffee in the morning person.

The splash stick is quite possibly the best invention ever.

Caffeine definitely rescues me early in the morning when I get up to workout or just do work. I love coffee but I’m not sure I like the caffeine or just the taste of it. I used to hate it. I guess it just kind of grows on you. I usually have half a glass in the morning with light vanilla soy milk and vanilla agave or stevia. And a lot of times, if I’m out all day, I’ll stop at DD or Starbucks for an iced coffee with skim milk or a skinny iced vanilla latte (usually for a snack). Yum!
