Even Junior thinks so! More on that in a moment…plus, other gratuitous animal photos.
But first — a few of you asked (in comments and on Twitter) what I mean when I say I’m detoxing. I guess I should have made it more clear — I’m using the word detox pretty flippantly. I’m not doing anything extreme like a fast or cleanse (although I do have friends that have done both).
I’m just getting back to clean eating, as much as possible. It’s similar to the Crap-Free weeks that other bloggers (Caitlin) have done. My detox:
- Minimal caffeine (oops — morning meeting at Starbucks. But check out my awesome mug, made with crushed lobster and oyster shells!)
- Lots of fresh, organic fruits and veggies. I keep these as raw as possible. Today, I had frozen green beans which I let thaw on my desk, instead of heating in the microwave.
- Lots and LOTS of water. I’m talking 64-100 ounces every day. How do I do it? Read this.
- Whole grains — organic, if possible. Tonight, I tested out a box of Seeds of Change grain blend and it was fan-tab-ulous. Quinoa, millet and brown rice. This company gives some of its profits to sustainable agriculture, which makes me happy. Normally, I get my grains in bulk but this has been staring at me for a while.
- Very lean meats, cooked as cleanly and simply as possible. Or no meat at all! On Monday, we had whole wheat pasta with steamed squash and roasted broccoli. Tonight, we celebrated Tofu Tuesday with some VERY pressed tofu:
(that’s a mark from the 10-pound weight we used to press it! No worries, this was wrapped in paper towels). After pressing, I marinated the tofu in coconut oil, soy sauce, some raw honey, spices and a splash of organic lime juice.
Baked at 425 and served with carrots and the Seeds of Change.
- As few processed foods as possible. That means no bars, no cereals…just good, whole foods like oats, eggs, etc.
- As many greens as I can. In addition to the veggies, I drink as many healthy smoothies as possible — mostly with Greens Plus or Vega powder mixed in. Chlorophyll-tastic.
- No artificial sweeteners. No splenda, no aspartame. If I need something sweet, I use agave or Stevia.
- No soda.
As you can see, none of this is very far from my day-to-day eating habits. But when I feel icky, like I did when I got home from vacation, I just get even more strict with the rules.
But, rules are made to be broken. Right, Starbucks?
I’m not the only one feeling off in my house. Poor Travers the cat has a bladder infection so he has to take some yucky pink medicine twice a day. We’ve been making a kitty burrito to protect us all: the cat, the cat holder and the medicine giver. So far, so good.
And if mommy likes greens, baby likes greens, right? No worries. This was empty and clean.
That’s all for now. I’m off to watch the end of the baseball game, then The Biggest Loser. I have a favorite. Do you?

I Love that you have to make a kitty burrito. He looks SO happy.
I love the way you eat, same as me, only fancier. You should do a show, because you make it soooo attractive and fun to eat healthy. Your blog is a public service! PS You and Luc are starting to look more and more alike. Plastic surgery??
It’s always nice to get back to your regular eating habits after an indulgent vacation for sure! Looks like you’ll be back to normal in no time.
Hi Katy and Mom Lynna,
How are you guys? Happy fall! I’ve been busy lately but just caught up on your posts, and enjoyed your pix! As far as new snacks go, I just discovered a new POM antioxidant food bar (enrobed with chocolate–delish!) and Tofu knishes (apple, chocolate, blueberry and spinach–apple is delish!) and polenta…TTYL.
P.S. When/where is the next Summit? Take care.
Marcia
