You guys crack me up…your comments truly make my day! My most recent favorite?
Laura on Wednesday 7, 2009I love the way you eat, same as me, only fancier. You should do a show, because you make it soooo attractive and fun to eat healthy. Your blog is a public service! PS You and Luc are starting to look more and more alike. Plastic surgery??
Food Network, are you listening?
As for the plastic surgery — no. Not yet. But I guess it’s better than saying I look like my dog!

An oldie but a favorite. Look at all that hair!
Also, a shoutout to one of my favorite bloggers at Eating Journey who apparently went bowling? You go, girl, it’s my favorite nerdy date night activity! Love the pic and am standing by for details.
We’re still in detox mode but I think both Lucas and I are starting to get back to our pre-vacation selves. We’ve been veggie-heavy the last couple of nights, so tonight I figured we needed a little lean protein. Pork chops are grilling as I type, with some brown rice in the steamer and green beans getting their deliciousness on in my new favorite fat:

COCONUT OIL!
Here are the deets, according to the Coconut Research Center (I know!):
- The coconut provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk, and oil that has fed and nourished populations around the world for generations.
- Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a “functional food” because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content. Coconut oil is of special interest because it possesses healing properties far beyond that of any other dietary oil and is extensively used in traditional medicine among Asian and Pacific populations. Pacific Islanders consider coconut oil to be the cure for all illness.
- Once mistakenly believed to be unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content, it is now known that the fat in coconut oil is a unique and different from most all other fats and possesses many health giving properties. It is now gaining long overdue recognition as a nutritious health food.
- Coconut oil has been described as “the healthiest oil on earth.”
- This is my favorite time of year. Football on Sundays, playoff baseball at night, and cool weather.
- Strike that. It was 94 degrees today in Florida. My run didn’t happen because I just couldn’t bring myself to step back outside after entering my air-conditioned house.
- I hate the Yankees.
- I stress out way too much over the Gosselin saga, and am going to make a real effort to stay away from the drama. I found myself near tears today when I saw Jon taking to Entertainment Tonight to talk about what a bad mother Kate is. She was on the “Today” show this week talking about Jon’s evil ways. I hate it all.

- I love Katy Perry, not only for her clearly superior spelling of her first name, but for the fabulousness that is her Muppet dress. Lady Gaga’s is weird, but so is she.

- I love all things Rick Bayless (mmm Topolo) so I must get my hands on one of the garden boxes he uses to grow his own food.

I have yet to try coconut oil but clearly need to. I have given up on the Gosselin’s, just tragic.
Aren’t you a doll…for mentioning me
I just want to tell you something awesome abt. coconut oil
1. FABULOUS moisturizer!!!! I put it on my face everyday
2. Removes eye make-up * thus if moisturizing your face, don’t put on or around eyes in the morning
3. GREAT for dandruff or irritated scalp. Liquify the oil and then rub on scalp before bed. Wrap in towel and then wash out the next morning.
Happy oiling baby.

I too am obsessed with Rick Bayless! He’s my chef boyfriend. Nevermind that he has a wife, who we spied him dining with when we went to Frontera Grill in Chicago. So good I’d hop a flight back just to eat there and then return to DC! We must swap stories!
