Hi everyone! I’m Katy, and I write about healthy living, triathlon and more at http://katywidrick.com. Some of you met me at the fabulous Fitbloggin’ recently in Baltimore (waves!).
I had such a blast in the panels, and came home wishing the conference had been more than one day. Then it hit me — the conference may have ended, but the discussions don’t have to! And since so many of us are on Twitter and into social media, I thought I’d ask if anyone was interested in starting a Twitter chat.
Boy…were you. Within minutes, I had dozens of people tweeting back — so here are my thoughts! (FYI, I host a weekly chat on Twitter, and have for a year, so while I am not an expert by any means, I am experienced!)
- The #fitblog chat would be every week, at a day and time to be determined.
- The #fitblog chat could have one moderator, or we could take turns. I’d be happy to help organize, whether I’m the moderator or not!
- For the first chat, I think it makes sense to try and break things into an organized agenda — EXAMPLE:
-
- 5 minutes: Introductions, rules, etc.
- 15 minutes: Topic 1
- 10 minutes: Topic 2
- 10 minutes: Topic 3
- 10 minutes: Topic 4
- 10 minutes: Sharing of links, pitches, general party chatter
- The chat would be held on Twitter, using tools like http://tweetchat.com and http://tweetgrid.com to make the discussion easier to follow. Don’t worry, I’ll explain how to use those and make the chat very user-friendly!
Topics could include everything from headlines, new workout reviews, questions about nurtition, pop culture, social media, analytics and more.
If you’re interested, take the poll below (or at this link), email me at kwidrick AT gmail DOT com or tweet me at http://twitter.com/kwidrick. Just say “Hey @kwidrick, I want to take part in #fitblog! And I’ll share information as it comes in.
Let’s set a tentative goal for our first chat happening the first or second week of April, so we can all get up to speed and spread the word. Cool?
OK, let’s start narrowing down days and times. See the poll link below? Click it, and a new window will pop up.
For every day that you CAN attend a chat, check it. If you can only attend one day, check only one. If you can attend multiple days, click each one so we can see what’s the most popular. Then do the same time for the time of day options — morning, day and evening. And so on.
This isn’t a commitment — and in fact, you’ll never HAVE to come to a chat. Hey, we have lives! So at this point, be as broad as you can when it comes to day/time options. Once it’s narrowed down, we’ll work together to pick the day and time that works best for everyone. And please feel free to share this post so we can spread the word about #fitblog!
