Pies and Pigs

And I only ate ONE of them!

Here’s the story…

It was a beautifully sunny weekend in Florida…perfect for spending time outside. So, after spending the morning with Meghann and Kelly doing a lake swim/bike brick, I grabbed my dude and hit the road!

Pie Fest 5

Lucas and I decided to head down to the National Pie Championships to meet our friends and get our all-you-can-eat-pie buffet on. I was shocked at how many people came out:

and equally shocked at the number of pies that were available to try. I think between us, we tasted the Maple Raisin, Strawberry Rhubarb, Peanut Butter, Apple, Peach, Candy Cane and at least one more fruit pie. The slices were pretty good — the Candy Cane was the standout for me — but after a few bites, my stomach reminded me why I don’t eat much processed food. We both spent the rest of the afternoon trying to walk off the queasy feeling the pies left in our tummies!

Pie Fest 2

We did violate the “no carryout” rule at the pie buffet, but it was for a good cause! Lucas blogs for the Celebration Town Tavern, so we dropped off a couple of slices to the bartender who got stuck working long hours for the festival. Think we made his day?

After leaving the pie festival, we headed downtown to celebrate Earth Day:

It was actually fun to be there as a vegetarian, because it was sponsored by a local vegetarian support group. We had a blast walking around the park, and I even got to give a big kiss to an adorable guy:

Despite our sore legs and grumbling tummies, we decided to spend another hour or so checking out the Florida Music Fetsival, which was just getting started. We didn’t stick around for any of the shows, but it was fun to see so much activity!

Finally, we headed home and pretty much collapsed for the rest of the night…the morning workout finally caught up to me, and I wanted NOTHING more than to put up my feet and pound a few homebrews. So I did. :)

Gotta leave you with this…Lucas is a crazy Detroit Lions fan and looks forward to the NFL draft every year. This year, he even got our dogs involved:

Question: If you had to choose one pie to eat — what kind would it be? I’m a chocolate and peanut butter girl. With whipped cream, please. You?

  7. Denise says:

Blackberry. Definitely warm blackberry pie with vanilla ice cream. And the crust has to be a good crust… none of the store bought out of the package stuff… the real deal.

    • Katy says:

I am really spoiled…Lucas makes homemade pies and crusts every year for Thanksgiving. Usually key lime and lemon. ohhhhh so good!

  8. Ms. Lala says:

I’m normally a cake kind of girl but as for pie it would have to be Lemon Meringue for sure! Love it!

  9. My mom makes the best apple pie ever. I refuse to eat any store bought pie because of this, and I’m even wary to try anyone else’s. When you have tasted the best, while settle for the rest, you know?

    Great dress, by the way!

Sweet Potato Pie – the only pie I eat!
