Good Deeds — How are You Making a Difference?

First, a public service announcement…

On June 5th, I will be attending the Taste of the Nation Orlando, in support of a causes I feel very strongly about — the mission to end children’s hunger. Lucas and I went last year, and had a blast. In fact, this year will be our third year eating some of the best food in the area and making a difference. If you want to see my pictures from last year (featuring everyone’s favorite beautiful blogger), click here!

Oh, and if you need more enticement, here’s a sneak peek at some of the menu items:

  • Crab Stack with Lump Crab Meat, Cooked Shrimp, Fresh Avocado, Fresh Apple Mango Salsa and a Swirl of Spicy Sriracha Sauce
  • Sardinia Pasta: Hand-rolled Chestnut Flour with Roasted Shallots and Cured Dried Beef
  • Porcini Rubbed Filet Mignon with 12 – Year Aged Balsamic and Sam’s Mashed Potatoes
  • Citrus Ceviche: Scallops, Shrimp, Cherry Tomatoes, Jalapeno, Fresh Juice
  • Roasted Beet Brownies with Gorgonzola, Spicy Cashews & Vanilla Honey
  • Sake Braised Short Ribs on an Edamame Polenta Cake with Caramelized Shallot Reduction Sauce’’
  • Greek Tuna Tataki in Lettuce Gyros with Sumac, Onions and Avocado Tzatziki
  • Pear and Gorgonzola Ravioli with a Sage Alfredo
  • Chef Jean-Louis’ Bananas Foster

I’m a vegetarian, which will narrow my choices, but given the dessert spread of last year…I think I’ll be just fine.

Speaking of desserts, Lucas made two custard pies this weekend — one, a tart lemon, and the other, infused with Pom Wonderful! POM actually sent Lucas a case of juice for his homebrewing, and we had a few leftover bottles. So, we made these treats…

POM Pie 2

And found a fine home for the rest. (Ahem: Amaretto Pomegranate Sours)

What else did we do this weekend? Toured our local restaurant supply store:

RS - Veggies

Weeded the garden (I have tomatoes and green beans and rainbow chard and onions and hot peppers and more!):

Little Helpers

Watched a shuttle launch from the backyard:

Atlantis Final 1

Drooled over (but did not buy) Vita-Mixes:

RS - Super Blenders

We did some gift card damage, hitting up Williams-Sonoma, IKEA and more…don’t you love gift cards? We really did well at Barnes & Noble — thanks, mom!

Can you guess which book belongs to me, and which to him?

Then today, I came home to some awesome packages:

That shirt is actually in support of Katherine, who is taking part in the 3-Day For the Cure, which raises money for breast cancer research and treatment. You can check out her store here, and if OB isn’t your thing, Katherine has shirts for Fitnessista and more.

And since we’re talking about bloggers making a difference — have you seen the bake sale that Bobbi is holding?

In honor of all the good deeds happening right now, I’d love to know — what cause(s) are you passionate about? How are you supporting them?

I wished I got paid every time I said this but for $400 you can buy a refurbished Vitamix from their site. I’ve had mine almost 2 years already. Your life will never be the same. I use mine once a day, if not twice. You can find a coupon online for free shipping and save $25 bucks. I wish I had bought mine sooner. If the house were on fire, it’s what I would grab. I seriously cannot say it enough. People just need to stop coveting and BUY one already. You will NOT regret it.
