Hot yoga? I’ve done it in a room before…just never outside. But boy did I sweat my asana off at Salutation Nation! SN is a nationwide event, sponsored by Lululemon, with the goal of getting 25,000 people practicing yoga, all at the same time. When I heard that my favorite local yoga studio (reviewed here) was helping lead the event in Orlando, I dragged Lucas downtown, yoga mats in hand.
It was neat to see such a range of people taking part — I saw some people in advanced poses, showing off incredible flexibility; others just did the most basic downward dogs and happy baby poses. There were men and women, kids and grandparents and bodies large and small.
And, encouraged by the instructors, there was LOTS of smiling and laughter.
The event lasted about an hour, and at the end (thanks to 95 degree weather), we were dripping sweat but feeling very peaceful. Like always, at the end of a yoga practice, I’m reminded at how much it does for my mind and body…I really need to be better about working it into my fitness routines!
Speaking of fitness routines — based on reviews from people like Mama Pea and Janetha, I’m reading up on “Body For Life” and considering giving it a 12-week shot. Have any of you tried it? What did you like/not like?

Interested in hearing more about Body for Life, too…
I loosely followed body for life YEARS ago – basically just the workouts, not the food. I thought it was just OK, but probably because everything is so regimented & spelled out for you. If you are good at sticking to a pre-determined workout plan you’ll love it & probably see great results. Just wasn’t for me though – I’d rather play it by ear & just do whatever kind of workout moves me that day. (A friend of mine did it at the same time, following the workouts and the food plan & she looked AMAZING at the end of the 12 weeks.)
I do better with a plan
I did the full 12-weeek Body For Life program starting in mid February through May. It was hard. No doubt about it. But I followed the plan pretty strictly and got great results.
I lost about 15 lbs. and actually exceeded my target weight loss by 6 lbs. I was very happy with my results. I would say that to really succeed, you have to embrace the 12 weeks passionately and with full commitment. The program works! I have maintained my results within a 3 lb. range since then and now loosely follow the program as a lifestyle. If you want to get in the best shape of your life, quickly and healthily, I highly recommend it.
There is also a very active and supportive online forum where you can get support, advice and inspiration along the way.
Wow — that’s fantastic! And great motivation…
katy, i love your new look
also looking forward to hearing about BFL as you progress through the program. that is if you decide to go forward with it.
Thanks, Kimmie! I started Day 1 today, so cross your fingers!
katy – I’d love to hear about your experiences with body for life. my girlfriend and all the chefs at her restaurant all swear by it, not only for weight loss, but also for keeping your diet balancing and majorly increasing energy. it’s very interesting… AND i love your new header.
I think the hardest part will be convincing myself that it’s OK to eat as much as the plan calls for! The energy is a big reason…I tend to fade out by 9pm then find myself mindlessly eating crap.
I’m doing a “modified” BFL right now. Today was the start of week 3, and I’ve already got a little more tone in my legs, a lot more tone in my arms, and my love handles are shrinking. My weight training is very much by the book, but the HIIT cardio & food aspects, I’ve tailored to fit my needs. I’m really enjoying it so far!
After 3 weeks, you’re seeing those results? Hot DAMN, girl!
