It’s funny…in all my struggles with weight, body image and confidence, one thing has NEVER been a problem.
I feel sexy.
I’m not saying I am sexy or that I have a body that others would find sexy…I just feel great when I can drop it like it’s hot, put on some fishnets and heels and really get lost in the music.
And just FYI? I don’t think sexy is the same as sex-y. As in, a gateway or precursor to sex. Sexy is a feeling — up there with happy, fulfilled, confident. Sexy is for YOU and for nobody else. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old; single or married; skinny or curvy.
I get my sexy on in weekly hip hop dance classes, but that’s more about grooving and getting a great cardio workout. When I heard about a special Burlesque event at Studio K in Orlando, designed to help us learn a few new sexy moves, I knew it would be a blast.
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful Burlesque
Step 1: Get into character.
Step 2: Meet with some good friends (Julie, Kelly, Kiran, Bess and some of my favorite Dance Trance girls).

Step 3. Accessorize with a feather boa.
Step 4. Dance like nobody’s watching. (video embedded below)
Step 5. After Step 4, when you realize that there are cameras and video cameras all around and people are, in fact, watching, shake what your mama gave you. (Thanks, StarStrukLynna.) (another video embedded below).
There’s nothing special about me or my dance moves — I’m often one of the least experienced in class, and I have very little natural talent. My body is not exactly best showcased in hot pants and stripper heels, or particularly built for burlesque dancing.
I just allow myself to truly embrace the moment, and appreciate that sexy comes from the inside.
What does sexy mean to you? How do you find that inner goddess?

Thanks Katy, I got my sexy on for sure
Next up – Dance Trance! Wahoo!!!
I love your definition of sexy. I agree its a personal feeling of confidence in yourself and what you carry – not so much about sex appeal. Your definition is way more, well…sexy!
I loved this post! I’ve started to do more dance for workouts lately (Zumba plus some dance classes) and I love the way dance puts you in your body. And I totally agree, it can definitely make you feel sexy in a way that has nothing to do with sex.
I agree that sexy comes from within! Gotta try me some burlesque! Loved the vids of the class! There’s something to be said for having fun like that instead of pure exercise now and then! Burn some cals and have a blast! I can get into that big time!
Nice moves, Katy and Kiran!
You’ve got some moves girl! Way to go!
I love your definition, and I have to say I think you are an awesome dancer!!
That looks soooo fun!
I am the same- I just shake my groove thang in class. I love it and I just let go without holding back. It’s sooo much more fun now that I do. Looks like you guys had a blast with this!
D
Sexy is definately a state of mind! I dance everyday (in my livingroom LOL) and it makes me feel great. You look like you’re having a blast in the burlesque class. I’ve always wanted to try one of those classes. (Plus, it’s an excuse to wear a boa!)
it’s all in the mind! Take care and stay sexy!
