Five for Friday

Y’all know I love to experiment when it comes to my health and fitness…I mean, I’ve done everything from triathlon to P90x to Making the Cut, 4-Hour Body, Body for Life and more.

So when Paige and the Healthy Spirit Wellness team asked if I’d be interested in taking part in their 28 Day Detox, I said YES YES YES!*

*Actually, what I said was “A detox? Isn’t that like one of those trendy cleanses? I dunno…is it healthy? Safe? Restrictive?” Paige had an amazing conversation with me, in which she explained that as a health coach, it’s her job to look at holistic health; everything from sleep to fitness and more. And this Detox is a non-restrictive plan that provides a blueprint for safely cutting out junk from our diets, while offering weekly group conference calls, workbooks and journals, a message board and more.

And here’s more:

“You’ve probably seen words like detox and cleanse in the media. Perhaps you even know people who have gone days drinking only some lemonade concoction, or surviving exclusively on green juices, or taking a slew of supplements to try to get the junk out.

This is nothing like that.

While we’re all about getting the junk out, we’re also all about food. This detox effectively cleanses your body and mind while still offering tons of tasty normal food options.

This almost-month-long group detox program (held entirely by phone!) will give us the chance to completely transform ourselves. This is an opportunity for you to break away from old habits and routines and discover what really makes you tick. We’ll tackle the foods that build up in our bodies and hold us back, the habits that aren’t really getting us anywhere, and the aspects of our environment that deserve an upgrade. The program will be gradual, focusing on eliminating or decreasing harmful factors one week at a time.”

I’m pretty excited about the chance to clean up some of the not-so-great eating I’ve been doing (the half marathon training monster MADE me eat some stuff that I normally wouldn’t). But a few points:

  • I have agreed to do this program at no cost, in order to help the Healthy Spirit Wellness team with feedback, reviews and HONEST thoughts on the process.
  • I will be eating an all-vegetarian diet throughout the detox period.
  • I will be doing weekly blog updates, as I did with 4-Hour Body.

Good job on catching the superfluous apostrophe. I am sad I didn’t notice it when I was watching the show!

  2. Kristen says:

Thanks – I love your blog too :) and check back in about two and a half months. I’ll be melting in the heat and humidity instead of complaining about snow in April.

I love the “girls dressing as tramps” search term :)

  3. Diana says:

Yea yea! Thanks for the shout-out sweetie! :) Good luck with your detox – sounds like a great challenge!

  4. The cleanse sounds interesting. I’m totally not into those 30 day juice cleanses (although I know everyone has their argument for or against them), but I’ve seen a bunch recently that are more about making changes to your overall diet (slowly eliminating coffee, soda, sweets etc), noticing how your body reacts, and then making the change permanent. I think these are so much more effective for the long term than just depriving yourself completely and as a future health coach, this one looks really great. I look forward to reading your reviews!

  5. Hey Katy!! :) I’m so glad to be doing this challenge with you!
