Got My Herrrr Did and I Flew (Detox Update, Too!

Did you see me fly? (It was more like flail, but my pals Meghann and Kelly got some shots of me that didn’t look like I was about to incur a concussion):

I’m the aerial silks ninja in all black. Can you see me? There will be a full, embarrassing video on IzonOrlando.com soon, and you can read Meghann’s recap of the night here.

P.S. After you read that recap, head HERE to watch me in my Paddleboard video debut, courtesy of Growing Bolder. :)

The coming week is shaping up to be one of the busiest AND most fun of my life!

  • Sunday:
    • Back to Kennedy Space Center for the RSS rollback of Space Shuttle Endeavour (#NASATweetup)
    • See Bon Jovi live!
  • Monday:
    • 3am wakeup call to drive back to KSC for (hopefully) the launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour!
  • Wednesday:
    • Take new Barre54 class in Orlando
  • Thursday-Sunday:
    • FITBLOGGIN‘! Where I’m doing a live #Fitblog chat, doing a presentation and basking in the fun, friends and swag

Of course, I also have several huge work projects that need to get done. Pray for me, people!

Updates

My hair:

I’m pretty sure I love it. The color is great, and she kept my length but gave me some long layers (I hate short choppy layers — so hard to pull back in a ponytail!) My bangs…I think I like. They’re too short too tuck and a little blunt on the ends, but I think I need to give it an at-home shampoo and dry to really get it how I want.

My Detox:

I am surprised to tell you that going off caffeine and sugar/artificial sweeteners was not only easier than I feared, but it’s made a real difference. I still struggle with some of the other tools we’re learning, especially when it comes to “me” time and stress relief, but I’m trying!

The best parts

  • So much energy! Especially in the morning, when I’m usually jonesing for coffee.
  • Eating clean is what my body craves — I jam up the system when I snack on crackers or candy.
  • Even though losing weight was not a huge goal for me on this, I’m eating a TON and have still lost 2 1/2 pounds in 2 weeks.
  • There’s a weekly conference call that rocks my world, and an online email group that has been great for sharing recipes, tips, etc.

The hardest parts:

  • Finding enough variety of foods to eat. In Week 1, we focused on cutting out caffeine, sugars/artificial sweeteners and alcohol. In Week 2, we’re off gluten. I’m also a vegetarian, so I’m having to be very creative when it comes to eating!
  • Portion control — this has always been my waterloo, and I’m struggling because while I’m 100% on plan, I’m not always great about being mindful about those portions. Hello, ladles full of peanut butter.
  • Knowing that there are four weeks ahead, with each one focusing on a new food to cut out!
  • Relaxing and meditating. This is in large part due to the fact that I’m speaking at Fitbloggin’ and still trying to keep #Fitblog awesome, so it’s a very busy time for me!

What are your tips for relaxing even during busy times? Help a girl out!

I love your hair! I think sometimes it takes a few days to soften up a little and hit its natural flow.

  2. It looks beautiful!! I’m always so nervous the day after a haircut because I never know if I can get it to look halfway decent by myself. ;)

  3. Love the bangs! I’m going bold and likely going to get some with my haircut today.

  4. Sarah says:

I would looooove to try this- I’m considering getting the yoga swing too but I’m not sure where I’d keep it at home.

  5. Stephanie says:

    Love the Hair!

I have a friend who’s starting teaching Barre54 out in Winter Park. She’s been using me as a guinea pig for some of the classes and it’s awesome…love the burn! Hope you enjoy it too!

  6. Your hair looks great – I’m lovin’ the bangs! Finding time to meditate is so hard. I’ve read so many books that talk about making time for it, but easier said than done! What I try to do is set a time at night when the computer is shut down, the TV goes off and it’s all about me/us. The dogs can be sent out for their last romp of the night and if I’m lucky I’ll get 30 minutes of quiet time before either the dogs come scratching at the door, the phone starting ringing or my hubby starts hovering around :-) It doesn’t sound like alot of time, but it is when you’re not used to any quiet time (I have a feeling you can relate!)

  7. Michelle says:

LOVE the hair and the color! Who do you go to? I’m on the hunt for a good stylist.

As for relaxing when I’m busy — I try to sit in child’s pose for about 5 minutes every day (usually before bed) and clear my mind of EVERYTHING. It’s just 5 minutes, but I feel like it really resets me and helps me sleep.

    Have a great week!
