EXCITEMENT! GLEE! HOPE! EXHAUSTED!
Those are all things I’m feeling about a new project that I’m launching in connection with #Fitblog Chats on Twitter. After seeing the success of last week’s webinars (Branding Basics and Blogging 101, now both available online) I knew that #Fitblog Presentations was something that could be super successful.
What is it? How can you take part? What topics will be covered? When will the presentations be offered? YOU HAVE THE POWER! Head to this short survey and help me so that #Fitblog can continue to grow and be something that you love as much as I love organizing it!

Have you heard of something called “PechaKucha 20×20?”

It’s a Japanese term that loosely translates to “chit chat” and it’s seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of. And it’s shocking that I’d never heard about it before, considering how BIG the project is!
After meeting one of the PechaKucha Orlando founders at the NASA Tweetup last month (my account of the amazing adventure in “Endeavour: The Launch“), I agreed to give a presentation on my experience at Kennedy Space Center — the social media, the new friendships, the launch itself and more.
“Sure,” I thought. “I have PLENTY to say! And hundreds of photos to share!”
Then I found out what PechaKucha is all about.
(From Pecha-Kucha.org)
PechaKucha 20×20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images forward automatically and you talk along to the images.
PechaKucha Nights are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps – just about anything really, in the PechaKucha 20×20 format.
20 slides? 20 seconds each?
Turns out, it’s the perfect format, especially since the presentations can be about ANYTHING! At the event I attended, we learned about:
- What Sylvia Plath’s poem “Metaphors” is really about
- The heartbreaking affair one man had…with an airplane
- The gamification of social media and entertainment
- A new invention to help astronauts move around more efficiently in space
- The unwritten rules of baseball
- How brands and businesses can leverage social media to connect with customers (a la Gary Vaynerchuk)
And, of course, my presentation…which (gulp!) was last. So it had to be good. I hope it was!
I know it’s not the same as seeing me give the presentation in person (I’ve set it to move at 15 seconds per slide), but I thought I’d share my 20×20 here!
You can go to the PechaKucha website to find local events, apply to present and even watch presentations online.
If you could do a PechaKucha presentation on ANY topic — what would it be?

Yay I’m so excited for the next step of Fitblog Chats! I loved the presentations posted and this 20×20 idea is so cool! If I could choose a topic I would probably do “Lessons that my Professors didn’t teach me in college”. I know so many people going into school of some sort and are very naive about what school is actually like!
Ohh wow this is so so cool!!
This is like the Ignite presentations. I saw they’re doing it at the Fitness & Health Blogging Conference, too. I’d love to do one, but I need to do some brainstorming first.
My work implemented the 20×20 idea for one of our all-hands meetings because they get too long and the presenter’s ramble. One person tried it. And it didn’t go so well because the person was reading off of index cards the whole time instead of really talking to us. I really liked the idea of it – I just don’t think they realized that just like any other presentation, you need to be prepared for it.
Cute design, love how clean it is!
What a fun idea… and your slideshow was super cute!
(I’d be freaking out inside if I met Seth Green, or any celebrity, too!)
