My favorite color is purple, but I bleed Orange.
And this weekend, I’m headed back to the scenes of some small crimes, a lot of partying, a ton of studying and the place that would truly shape my future:
Syracuse University.
It’s where I trained to become a journalist, and where I met my (now) husband. It’s where I lived in a teeny studio apartment and got my first job, and was the source (and target) of many a snow-induced tantrum.
Lucas and I thrilled to go back, because two of our favorite people are getting married. That’s a story for another day (and it’s a good one, so stay tuned).
Today, I’m loving looking back at old pictures from when I called Syracuse home…back in the late ’90s and early ’00s. The campus has changed a lot since I was last here, and I can’t wait to snap some new memories!

What is it like when you go back to your college town?

When my oldest first started his college search several years ago, I realized then how I really had not chosen the right college for myself. Things were different back then, in the dark ages, before the internet. So while college led to grad school which led to my husband and kids and life, it is not a place that I think of revisiting. Except in my dreams when I show up for the test after skipping class all semester!
Anyhoo, my youngest is heading off to school in California in 5 weeks, but for most of the year we thought he’d be going to Syracuse. From everything he learned, and we learned, we got a great feel about that school. And at the end of the day it was very hard for him to make the choice he did. But, weather aside, he chose with his head and made a logical decision based on the field he hope to go into. But I still smile when I think of Syracuse.

I graduated in 2000 and haven’t been back. So sad! Mostly just because it’s far. I live in Georgia and went to college in Vermont. I keep trying to convince my husband that we need to go on a ski trip up there one of these years. Hasn’t happened yet. I imagine a lot has changed in 11 years. How did I graduate college 11 years ago??

I graduated back in 1999 and haven’t been back to ole college town since 2003. I totally think it hasn’t changed at all but last time I was there the best candy shop in the world was sadly gone. My husband wants to go check out Northampton, MA so we might drive up there in October.

This is the best post ever! I love looking at other alumni’s pictures!
I’m so excited/jealous you get to go back there this weekend! Have a beer for me at Chucks!
Oh and make sure someone gives you a tour of the new Ernie Davis dorm across from Delplain. I lived there the 2nd year it was open and it is unreal. It’s unlike anything else on campus!
I really hope you do a recap of your weekend and take TONS of pictures!
Have fun!

I love going back to university days and revisiting the campus and catching up with old friends — I find it so nostalgic! It doesn’t seem that long ago and I have so many great friends and memories from those years. Have fun!!!

OMG! Great pictures! I don’t feel old, but I look back at pictures of Karl and I back at Syracuse and I’m just stunned. We look like babies! I feel like I was another person back then. I really like who we’ve become Katy : )
I went to Emerson in Boston. We didn’t have a typical campus, but I loved every minute of it. I wish I had a digital camera back then. I didn’t take nearly as many photos as I should have!

I love going back to Purdue. It just feels like home. Although I feel really old when I think about how the seniors graduated high school in ’08, and I get disappointed when I don’t run into anyone that I know at the bars.

Is that bar photo at Chucks? My husband went to Syracuse for graduate school (not quite the same experience as doing undergrad there I’ll bet…) and his favorite place was Chucks. I hate hanging out at bars but even I loved that place. I remember the stale popcorn that was great because it was free.
I have many fond memories of Syracuse since he spent 6 years there. I even lived with him there during a couple of summers.
I loved Rochester, where we met during undergrad. I hardly ever get back there anymore, haven’t been there in years. I wish I had more pictures of my campus. This post might just inspire me to go to the next reunion weekend.
