Want a good cry to start your day?
Read the story of the dog that just won’t let his owner go. Hawkeye the labrador lay on the floor beside the casket of fallen Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson and stayed there. And stayed there. And wouldn’t move.
Hawkeye walked up to the casket at the beginning of the service and then dropped down with a heaving sigh as about 1,500 mourners witnessed a dog accompanying his master until the end, reported CBS.
Tumilson’s cousin took a picture and posted it on Facebook and from there, it’s gone viral. NBC‘s Today show covered it here and I just can’t tear myself away from the story.
Tumilson was one of the heroes we lost in the Chinook helicopter attack earlier this month, and this photo just brings it all home, doesn’t it?
I’m also feeling sad and weepy today at the news that triathlete Sara McLarty — someone I’m proud to say I know — lost her father when he was hit by a car while cycling this week. Just.freaking.awful. Here’s what she posted in response to the messages her friends left on Facebook:
My dad was an amazing man. He loved life, adventures, solving problems, creating masterpieces, and breaking a good sweat! He died today on a bike ride…doing something he loved.

I saw that story about the dog and I refused to click on it because I knew I’d cry. I mean, I cried in the episode of Futurama where Fry’s dog waited for Fry to come back (he stepped into a time machine), and the dog just grew old waiting for him and died. OMG. If Futurama can do that to me, there is no chance I’m not coming out of that other dog story a big mess.

LOL I love how many different ways you can ask whether Hurricane Irene will hit Orlando. From my research, I believe Irene will hit the Carolinas first

I saw that picture of the dog too and my heart just broke. I immediately sent it to my husband (who won’t let me get a dog) trying to prove how loyal dogs are. Sadly, it didn’t work.
I love your blog and how informative it is! Keep it up – we all appreciate it!
Aaaaand thank you for making me cry at work.
