This won’t surprise anyone:
I love. love. love. the new Facebook features. I was thrilled to see the notification about the new tools on my dashboard on Wednesday morning, and I’m even more excited to see what comes out of this week’s f8 developer conference.
Which, by the way — is going to be big. Per Mashable:
“I have seen what Facebook is launching on Thursday, and it’s going to change the world of social media. And while I won’t talk about the mind-boggling things Facebook will be launching, I will say this: The Facebook you know and (don’t) love will be forever transformed. The news that will come out of Facebook during the next few weeks will be the biggest things to come out of the company since the launch of the Facebook Platform.”
“On Thursday, developers will be elated, users will be shellshocked and the competition will look ancient. On Thursday, Facebook will be reborn. Prepare yourselves for the evolution of social networking.” –Ben Parr
I love the ticker. I love the new news feed. I love the subscriptions and I love the smart friends lists.
(And I REALLY love the ability to track my friends’ activity on pages that I admin…)
But MAN — it’s crazy to watch how many people feel the opposite of me. I spent more time on Wednesday than I’d like to admit facepalming over my friends’ status updates.
And even more time laughing over the way some of my favorite blogs treated the ridiculous amount of bitching and moaning.
And when I headed over to Facebook’s help page, I was shocked at some of the comments people were leaving — only minutes after the features were unveiled. How could they possibly have had time to get to know the tools?

Even people on Twitter had some thoughts they wanted to share on Facebook’s new look.

I was too busy at work to even really figure out the changes yesterday. I do agree that everyone gets upset when facebook changes but then in a week, they’ll all be used to it. I’m curious to see what they’ll unveil today.

this was great! thank you for your honest approach katy. Its just going to take time, like all things! I need to play with it and right now, thats the last thing on my mind so i get frustrated but it will all be good. Change can be GOOD!

I am not sure how I feel yet. People will ALWAYS complain about change, even if it’s for the better, so that was to be expected. I just need to get use to it but I know that they didn’t make these changes to piss people off. It’s supposed to be a good thing!

I like a couple of the new features but I don’t like the feed. As with anything, I will adjust and learn how to use all the new features.

I’m pretty apathetic about the changes. I don’t use facebook enough to care, really. I mean I habitually go on and read the feed/check messages etc, but I’m not really an active user so the changes don’t matter too much to me. People like to find a reason to freak out
I always laugh when Facebook rolls out new changes like this. People complain so much silly because they hate change. Give them a few days and they’ll shut up.
I love the new changes. I don’t spend as much time n Facebook as I used to but the new features make it so easy to go look at the different updates of people in the different lists. I just need to take the time to make the lists now.
Wow, lol, I guess I was on a roll with listing things.
I’m a computer guy, so I love tech changes. I think that while most people don’t like change, there are some of us who like change but want it done when it makes sense. I’m not saying these changes definitely don’t make sense because I haven’t had time to fully explore and utilize them but for right now a few features are a little puzzling in regards to need. Another thing to consider is that most people, the one’s who give the reason for not signing up for G+ because it took them “forever” to get on Facebook or some of the older generation, like the parentals, aren’t tech savvy. This category of people are just on there to read updates from their family and friends and to check out current pictures. To me, so far, Facebook has taken that type of simplicity away from them. They don’t want to take on the approach, “I don’t like, so I will leave” because Facebook has been a great portal for them to get in touch with people that may not see or talk as much.
I know they are two different beasts but Twitter is one of the reasons I have spent less time on Facebook. I like that it’s one constant stream of everyone I follow and all I have to do is scroll to see what’s going on.
Well that’s my opinion explained a little better than my 140 character restricted list.
Side note: Everyone should just move to G+ anyways.

I don’t love nor hate it. I honestly haven’t had the chance to really explore it.
The changes did take me by surprise, as they appeared while I was on Facebook. One second I was updating my status, and the next, my news feed was all changed. It literally changed before my eyes! Lol!

I HATE the new ticker. I wish there was an option to hide or remove it. I have an issue with clutter, and that includes visual clutter. So I find it distracting over there on the sidebar. I also don’t like the new version of chat. Some times change is good; sometimes… not so much.

I’m not the biggest fan of the new layout. Facebook is never remotely close in guessing which things I find interesting and their choices in “top stories” were annoying yesterday. If their goal was to pick the people I have zero interaction with and push them to the top of my feed then they have succeeded. I don’t mind the visual changes but I’m a big fan of things being in chronological order.
Unlike most of the people on MY facebook I rarely complain about the changes. Every time something changes they get all upset and rant about it. I didn’t care all that much but this new change is super annoying. I dislike it so much. I hated the new “lists” that just caused redundancy and annoying notifications that NEVER went away. I dislike the scrolling Twitter-like feed within FB about people’s status…just give me one list.

My one thing is that either I haven’t discovered a way to see a list of just status updates or it no longer exists… and creepy as it may sound I loved seeing just status updates. Other htan that I think a lot of the complaining is a learning curve. I’m not the biggest fan of it mostly because I haven’t tried using it much (though I DID like the new “subscription” stuff wehre you can make some people more important, etc) but I”m sure I’ll figure it out eventually…
Still, if you have figured out this status update bit by all means tell me
haha

I am so glad to find another person who doesn’t pitch a fit every time Facebook changes. I love figuring out all the new features and I realized a long time ago that change for sites like Facebook are inevitable. I’ve already signed up for the newest format because it looks awesome. What I really need to do is figure out how to be more patient with all the whiners in my newsfeed.

After going through several rounds of FB changes I go with the flow and learn it. Not like the FB team is going to listen to me.
Insomnia helped me figure it out last night and I loved playing around with groups and who has access to what. I’m looking forward to figuring it out more.

I’ve never been a fan of their “top stories” and at least before I could easily click over to “recent”. And I think what annoys me the most is the slow changes, not just one big re-launch. A while back you did your post on the Lists…at the time I didn’t even have lists on my account. I have no idea why but they didn’t show up until the day after G+ launched.
I don’t use FB a ton anymore because it has become so oriented around business and advertising but being able to share photos has been a huge thing for me and it just keeps gettingn worse and worse. I love how G+ has their photos set up and the fact that I can easily share them with my parents (not on any social network).
Eventually I’ll adapt but I’ll definitely be using it less…each time they come out with a big change I use it just a little bit less…

I think I’ll like it once it starts working on my end LOL I have TWO tickers and tried to submit a bug report but their bug report was broken ha ha. If I want a ticker, I would go to Twitter. I agree it’s just more clutter but whatcha going to do.
It would be nice to have the choice as to whether we want the ticker or not but otherwise, I’m cool with it so far. Looking forward for the bugs to be worked out and the new layout, etc. I could also do without the top stories because none of the ones they put up there would be top in my book but whatever.
I spend most of my time on my FB pages anyway and so far they haven’t changed much.

I like the new facebook. Every time it changes people freak out and then forget. This time I really like the changes, I like the control over what we see, I think it seems really intuitive and I LOVE the side newsfeed because you can really easily see what’s going on and be really stalky, because honestly, isn’t that really one of the main reasons we are on facebook?
