A while back, I pondered the meaning of inspirational (“What Does Inspirational Really Mean?“), and I was so blown away by some of your comments.
Honestly, they brought tears to my eyes.
Well, this week, I found myself thinking about the topic again while doing a very special photo shoot for Growing Bolder.

(How awesome is that nifty fifty lens?)
We’re handing out the second Growing Bolder Inspiration Award to someone at the upcoming Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic (Rowdy is an Olympian and NBC announcer…and, oh year, a contributor to the show I produce!).
Whomever wins will be in good company. The first award went to Tony Handler, a six-time cancer survivor and amazing triathlete (video embedded below).
I still find so much power in that word — inspirational. And I’d love for you to share more thoughts on what makes someone inspirational.

Hi Katy.
It has been awhile since I posted w/you. One of the subjects today really gets my nerves in a tizzy. Or seriously ….. my blood boiling. What a thought huh? Ha.
I have zero idea why any female (or males …. as if) chooses to attack another woman. There should not be any tolerance for that/those behaviors. It is so much easier/healthier for folks to be nice …. kind. Do onto other’s as you would have them do onto you. Obviously, these individuals never learned respect growing up.
If one does not have anything good to say …. best to say nothing.
We are not being forced to read blogs. Overall, bloggers teach us. I feel as if they do.
Being an older woman, it’s very enjoyable for me to read what’s what in the world of 20 & 30 year old ladies. How they exercise, enjoy food and also diet. I do make comments ……. always positive. Goodness gracious, I would never think to be purposely rude to someone I do not even know. That is wrong.
If everyone was the same, our world would be boring and dull. Reading the variety of blogs is an experience you can only get from the internet ….. socializing through the writings of others. To me these blogs are huge treats!!!
Glad you’ve decided to keep the “comments” section. There are countless bloggers that have mail read before it comes in as comments. I do favor that idea. A good way to keep out those unnecessary rude individuals.
I wonder what other bloggers are thinking to do about the subject?
Good weekend to you Katy!
P.S. Those hairstyle are cute. I love braids!
Hi Marcee — I’m so glad you decided to weigh in!
I love your perspective…again, because I work for a company that’s all about embracing ALL ages, I definitely think I’m more interested in building a diverse community than others. So I’m glad that you stopped by.
I interned for a semester at an outpatient therapy center for people with spinal cord injuries. This was a very “progressive” type of treatment center and they utilized a lot of stuff that doctors did with Christopher Reeves- they’re goal was to work with the patients so they were as strong and healthy as possible should science ever figure out how to help regrow the spinal cord. So many of these people were told that they would just “sit” in their wheelchairs the rest of their lives. It was fascinating to see them working so hard and learning how to feed themselves with new tools, slowly walk on a treadmill while being harnessed in so that they leg muscles wouldn’t atrophy, and see them become more functional than doctors ever told them they would be! It just goes to show that hard work, not giving up, and having a positive attitude can really make a difference!
