Did you hear the story about the guy in New York that is SUING his ex-girlfriend for custody…of their dog? He’s racked up $60K so far (and is asking for donations from the public) because he says she kidnapped “Knuckles” and took him to California. Listen, Lucas and I love our dogs like they are children, but this is insane.
We are the owners of two shelter rescues, and we could not love them any more. Their adoption fees were about $250 each. Had we not adopted them, they’d be dead. Do I think shelter pets are best for everyone? Absolutely not. And this is not some kind of end-all be-all rule that I’m trying to throw down.
But my heart broke this weekend at a special beer-and-puppies event (gosh, my husband has an awesome job) where I got to hold some truly Pitiful Pups and thank goodness for people that devoted their lives to taking care of these guys. And now, your gratuitous puppy shots.

Are these all pit puppies? I love that you are so passionate about so many things.
OMG give me those puppies! love them
So cute! Our cat is from a rescue home. We paid $150 for him…. and $2200 to fly him to London from Australia when we moved two months ago. Some people thought we were crazy, but we saved his life and I wasn’t going to just leave him with no home, yet again
I can’t see the pics – but probably just as well… I crave puppies – I swear if I wasn’t married I’d be a crazy dog lady
how can shelter puppies not be for everyone?! i feel like there is ALWAYS a good rescue option vs supporting breeders and thus the source that then potentially creates even more pups without homes….i didn’t fully “get it” ’til we adopted a rescue pup ourselves; but now i don’t understand why folks would go the other way when they could ensure that one more pup makes it out of the shelter. half the time i think it is simply a matter of education–spreading the word about this option like you are here, and making people aware of the alternative. so thank you for that!
