My No-Labor (Phew) Labor Day

When Lucas and I sat down to look at our fall calendar, we knew we were going to be busy. But we wanted to accomplish at least one pre-baby goal: a babymoon.

I hate the word, but really do love the concept…because as new parents, the months ahead are going to be absent of things like trips to the beach, afternoon naps, overindulgence at the bar, etc.

We found the one and only weekend where we could each commit to leaving town and decided (gulp) to take the dogs with us for the beach vacation of our dreams. And boy, did we get it.

(However, at 35 weeks pregnant, I’ll admit…I had a few bad moments worrying about being three hours away from the hospital. Hence, the title: no baby. Happy Katy.)

You’ll notice that very few — actually, NONE — of my pictures show me or Lucas. They’re frame after frame of our dogs in various states of fatigue. And that was the best part of the trip. We found a fabulous dog-friendly hotel in Dunedin: tile floors, very low pet charge, two beds, etc. We went to the (doggie) beach on Honeymoon Island. We went to the sponge docks at Tarpon Springs. We drove along the coast and walked through the quaint towns and ate at dog-friendly restaurants.

I hit every bullet on my to-do list. Slept in without setting an alarm (although apparently my sweet spot is 7:30am). Ate indulgently — pancakes, french toast, muffins… napped every day. Read a book and half. Sat with my toes in the sand. Ate Publix subs. Watched cable (not nearly as exciting as I thought…apparently a year and a half away is enough to numb me to the power of cable channels?).

We got there Friday night and drove home Monday. Hit the couch for another nap, a final Publix sub, some tennis on TV and now, it’s back to work.

We have less than five weeks until our due date. It’s back to the grind and back to baby watch.

  1. I was hoping that your babymoon would be wonderful..sounds as if it was that and better! Glad things worked out with the pups!

  2. Publix subs are definitely under-appreciated! I love their food.

  3. Glad you had a relaxing weekend!

  4. Glad you had a nice weekend! I really would have preferred to go away but I ended up doing a bunch of nothing which makes me feel like an unproductive lazy-ass. Oh! I did vacuum the floors so Pants can shed all over them again. I did one thing. Woo! :-)

  5. Your dogs are so cute! It’s so funny because my husband and I were just talking about how we always end up with a ton of pics of our dog but none of us when we go on outings. It looks like it was a great trip!

  6. Sounds like a Great weekend! Cute dogs! Our trips always end up with the same photo’s. Here are the dogs at… followed by tired dogs at …. Soon though you’ll have baby photo’s!
