Waiting for labor. Waiting for a smartphone. Kind of the same thing, at least in preparation and anxiety levels.
When Lucas’ phone smashed a few months ago, I knew it was time to upgrade both of our devices. We were eligible, we use them all day every day and I considered it a worthy investment. But I cautioned myself (and him) to wait. A new phone was a-comin’. And patience would be rewarded.
We’re iPhone addicts, all the way (although we recently got a Google Nexus 7, which operates on Android, and it’s sweeeeeet!) but I’ve never really been one to need the newest, flashiest, spendiest model. But the fates aligned this time and with our upgrade discount, it’s within our budget to NERD OUT over the iPhone 5.
Last Friday, I eagerly woke up and started the order process for two iPhones in his (black) and hers (white). Got the confirmation that they’re on their way and celebrated!
Now comes the waiting. Will they be here on 9/21? We’ll see! Apple sold out and moved the shipping date back but since I went through AT&T, all signs still point to on-time delivery. Our current phones are backed up and I’m ready to start the process of moving my stuff from one home to another.
Are you an iPhoner, a Droid or do you stick with something simpler?

i am also anxiously awaiting my iPhone 5. ordered mine at 5:15 est that morning from apple and am getting an october 5th delivery date. fingers crossed it shows up before then.
I just got on the iPhone bandwagon (even though I’ve been a Mac user for years), so I’ll be waiting until Verizon lets me upgrade in Dec 2013 – maybe it will be an iPhone 7 by then.
I LOVED my HTC Droid Incredible, but they stopped making it, so I shifted over to the IPhone 4S, which I have come to like. So many things left to learn about capability, but willing to try. I do think we’ll go with a Droid tablet when it is time.
Enjoy all the iPhone 5 goodness! I couldn’t wait and in May got the iphone 4S, oh well!
At least I’ll get the upgrades with io6.
I switched to an iPhone a few months ago after being a die-hard blackberry user for years and I am SO happy I did!
thats awesome that you got to preorder one! I know they were like sold out in 24 hours thats crazy! you must do an update on all the new features! I can’t wait to see how the new navigation tool is! I just have a 4 so I don’t even have siri but I heard its pretty sweet! (:
It turns out it was a GOOD thing you ended up going through AT&T! My brother woke up super early (like 4-5am) and ordered his through Apple and it’s not coming until October!
I got an email today (I go through at&t’s premiere site because of a work discount) saying my order is reserved and should arrive as soon as Friday — but that I should still get an email when it ships. Hope that email comes today

I’m feeling the same way! I was due for an upgrade over the summer but since I was abroad and my phone was switched off, my upgrade was delayed to this month. When the 5 was announced I knew it was time! My old phone was such a piece of junk and for the amount that I use my phone, it makes sense to get the newest model. But I’m going in person to the Verizon store down the street to pick mine up…. I told them I could come at 8am, so I’m going to be one of “those” people in line waiting for their phone! Whoops.

I’m definitely an iPhoner!! I’m not getting the new one though because 1 – money is tight and 2 – I’m not eligible for an upgrade.
I’m an IT person but with a small company. I constantly mingle with the IT from big companies and they get big early shipments of every gadget going so that they can ensure they have no problems during deployment. It just about kills me ’cause they hardly ever let me play with their toys!! Boys Suck!!
I’m an iphone convert. My first smart phone was an Android but after about a year I started having a lot of issues with it dropping calls so as soon as I was eligible for an upgrade at the discounted rate I switched to the iphone 4S and absolutely love it. I don’t think I’ll ever switch back. Unfortunately I still have over a year left on my contract so I guess I’ll just have to wait for the iphone 6.
Can’t wait to get mine!! I have to wait until next month when my AT&T contract is up because I’m going to switch to Verizon. Let us know what you think when it arrives! LUCKY!
I still have a flip phone, lol! I have used my husband’s before and it drove me crazy. It’s screen is so much smaller than my Kindle’s. I can’t imagine getting used to that.
Droid, but I’m ready for an iPhone! Hopefully soon.
We are an Android family and all our devices are Android powered. I have considered switching to an I Phone but really see no need for it. I love how the Android are totally integrated with everything google… makes it super easy!!! Good luck!

I’m due for an upgrade next month and was thinking about becoming a traitor and going with the iPhone 5. I’m hoping you will do a review on it and maybe it will help me decide.
Jealous. The AT&T site was all frozen up when I tried, so I’m waiting for Oct. 5 from Apple like a sucker…
