(Quick note: Today, my picture is featured on FacesofBeauty.org — check it out! It’s a PERFECT compliment to the project I talk about in this post)
Many people have served as role models and sources of inspiration for me as I try each and every day to make choices that lead to health and happiness.
Some inspire me by being strong — they have found the healthy spark in their own lives and pay it forward by sharing tips and advice.
Some inspire me by being stubborn — they are still climbing the steep hill toward health and happiness but refuse to give up.
Michelle from Eating Journey is both. She’s a success story who still struggles with body image; someone who so many of us can relate to because she’s prove that the journey is over a lifetime, and each day is a step forward.
When I saw what she’d done, my first thought was —
“I could NEVER do that — let people see my tummy…my legs…my skin…what I really look like?!”
But I watched as response posts came pouring in. People from all over the world, of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels, exposing their bodies and literally shedding the covers. Each post inspired me and each made me more confident that I could do the same.
So in December 2009, I posted this:
When I hit publish, I thought I’d feel fear. But I felt free. I’m proud of where I am in my own journey. Today, one year after the Exposed journey started and nearly a year since I joined in, each of the phrases I posted remain true. So I hope that you’ll take a moment and read the rest of the Exposed posts — and let Michelle know how much you appreciate her leading the cause.
Also: if you are on Twitter, check out the #exposed hashtag — people will be using it to tweet through the day!)
If you are not ready to share your picture — I totally understand! But I hope you’ll leave me a comment and tell me three things that you’re proud of with your body. Maybe your smile lights up the room, or your legs are strong enough to let you carry 5 bags of groceries at once. Let me know and expose yourself today!
