Remember when I worked with Rock My Run to release a free workout mix? Well, it turns out it’s still the most downloaded program on the website. And one of the most trafficked posts on my site as well (the search terms “I Hate Running,” “Music for Running” and “Run Mixes” bring a lot of people in).
I can’t take any credit for the success. The songs were performed by great artists, the DJ that mixed them together did great work, and frankly…running sucks.*
But that mix is now two years old, so Rock My Run and I are releasing what we hope you’ll make the next viral workout jam.
The mix is made up of a lot of the songs that were on my Winter Park Road Race 10K playlist, which helped me with my intervals. Songs include:
- Stay by Rihanna
- Heart Attack by Demi Lovato
- My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark by Fall Out Boy
- Suit & Tie by Justin Timberlake
So it’s an eclectic, pop-driven playlist that also includes some hard rock, some country and some electronic/house tracks.
(I’ll even forgive them for adding one track that I frankly HATE — but it kinda works here…Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” And hey, if you don’t like it, maybe it will force you to run a few angry minutes while waiting for it to end!)
This playlist is FREE to download, but you will need a free account to get it (you can listen to the songs without logging in). There are both free and premium memberships on the Rock My Run site, so if you like what you see, you can always upgrade for access to more music.

There is, by the way, a free iPhone app for Rock My Run, which allows you to listen to, auto-sync and download new mixes while you’re on your smartphone.
Note: as much as I hate to have to disclose a non-sponsored post as being non-sponsored…this one is. This is just a cool company who makes cool stuff and happened to make a cool thing based on a list I sent them. I get no affiliate compensation and have not been paid for this post. You can read my complete disclosure policy at this link.
The next part? It IS sponsored — I’ve been compensated to help promote a running series.
*So, running doesn’t actually suck. With about five years of running under my belt, I now actually call myself a runner and mean it. When I go too many days without pounding the pavement, I get twitchy. I don’t know if I’ll ever really love running in the moment, but I love how I feel right after, and that goes a long way.
Remember — you can join me in a race this fall (and I could use the cheerleading since I’m really hoping to PR at the 5K distance!)”:
I’m registered for the St. Petersburg 5K, one of many Women’s Running Series races in the next few months.
