I am an Iron Girl (Or Will Be Soon!)

It started so innocently — I decided to come clean with my bi-polar relationship with running.

I figured…well, now it’s out there and the pressure is off.

Then came this sweet but oh-so-devious email:

I came across your blog this afternoon and haven’t been doing anything but reading posts since I got there. There are many things that I find very interesting about your blog but one that I needed to reach out to you about.

“On This Day, I Thee Finish”: I read this and have felt similar things before in the running world and triathlon world. I know you are planning to put running aside for a while and I respect that completely. If it comes to be that you’re missing it and are ready to do another event, I see you are in the state of Florida and did some Disney events. So here it goes, I work for Iron Girl in Tampa and I was wondering if you would like to do our first ever Iron Girl ½ Marathon in Clearwater! That is, if you are back in the running mood.

Don’t feel obligated but we’d love to have you at our event. Feel free to contact me with any questions. If I don’t hear from you, thank you for your time and keep on blogging!

As you now know, I not only answered that email, but somehow agreed to train for and run the Iron Girl 1/2 Marathon…which is now just a week away.

As for the sweet but oh-so-devious woman that got me roped into the race?

Only one of the most passionate, ambitious and friendly people I’ve ever meet. Now YOU get to know Sarah, Iron Girl Athlete Services & Marketing Coordinator. I begged her to do a video interview with me to explain why Iron Girl is different, what all-women events are all about, and why she’s so psyched up about healthy living.

I promise, you’ll like her as much as I do. Watch the video embedded below (or here) then read on to see how YOU can get involved with Iron Girl if you want.

Adorable, right? Sarah is a triathlete, super excited about learning social media and using it to spread the Iron Girl mission, and hysterically funny. I’m really excited to be involved with Iron Girl and despite my nerves — really revved up to cross the finish line next week!

Interested in doing an Iron Girl event? You can see all of the upcoming races here. They’re all women, very supportive and great for beginner triathletes or runners.

If you want to get involved but aren’t ready to run, you can volunteer — it makes a huge difference and is a LOT of fun.

Contact Iron Girl at info@irongirl.com to learn more and get details…and tell ’em I sent you.

P.S. Iron Girl paid for my race entry into the Clearwater event, but all of the posts and tweets and love I spread on them is real. If they hadn’t let me in, I would have bought the bib. I {heart} Iron Girl. For realz.

I was planning on doing the 1/2, but had to drop down to the 5K because of personal/health reasons. I ran the 5K last year and just loved the whole atmosphere so much! It’s fun being out there with all the women. :)

Awesome! I will be doing the IronGirl half as well and I am really excited too! It sounds like such a good event.
Hope I get a chance to meet you and Sara at there. :)

Thank you for sharing her story. I love the word ” Iron Girl”. I feel strong just saying it.

I went on the link and I’m happy to say that there are 2 events near Southern California an one is in my old college town in San Diego. I’m usually the one that gathers all the girls around to do races and fun fitness events, we will be looking to add Iron Girl events to our calendar :)

Sounds like there are going to be a TON of local bloggers & readers there this weekend! I ran the 15k last year & loved the atmosphere of the event – definitely one of the reasons I’m doing the 1/2 this year!

Please let us know how this half marathon is (race course, number of people running, etc). I am from Clearwater (living in Orlando now) and would love to run this race next year!
