You Oughta Know: Facebook’s “Other” Folder

This is just a quick tip but I share because everyone I’ve talked about it to has responded with…

“OOOOOOOHHHHHH I didn’t know I had that folder!”

“Oh my gosh, I have 15 messages that I never saw!”

Did you know that Facebook has an “other” folder where messages go to die? In theory, it’s a spam-blocker (and now that Facebook may charge you to send messages to people, it’s also a money-maker for the company, but I digress since I’ve already said that I would pay for Facebook myself). But it can also send messages that you want to see into the ether.

(For example, I’m in a local mom group on Facebook where people can sell/trade baby items. Since many of us are not friends on Facebook, our messages to each other usually end up in “other.”)

1) Go to your Facebook messages page.

2) At the top/left, you’ll see the word Inbox. Just to the right, you’ll see the word Other. Click on it.

TA DA! From there, you have a few new options. You can send an “other” message to your main inbox or you change your settings to be a little less aggressive with the filtering.

Thank you! I had no idea and, sure enough, had a message in there that someone told me they sent me last year!

I did know about that folder but only just recently. Is Facebook really goi g to charge to send messages? I think that is so stupid. I’m starting to really dislike Facebook.

This is very aggravating. 60 cents won’t break the bank but there are people I genuinely would like to get in touch with and I am afraid they won’t check the OTHER folder. Zuckerberg and company are taking advantage of this. Isn’t he enough times a billionaire not to nickel and dime us? I am lucky I was able to amass a 1200 plus family tree through sending out messages to people to whom I was not connected, but shared thee uncommon of my grandparents’ last names. Today I would be spending me for this.
